Since 2017 the Nigerian Government has opted to establish a National Identity Card as a means to identify all Nigerians in Cameroon and in the Diaspora.

This document has replaced those that were used before notably; passport, driver’s license and birth certificate to serve other purposes apart from identifying.

According to the Nigerian Consul General, H.E. Safiu O. Olaniyan  to Cameroon’s Littoral and West Regions,  ”Everybody has to be properly identified wherever they are.

The card also serves the purpose of being a master card which instead of having multiple bank cards, you could actually use your identity card as a bank card but for the number, you will actually need the number to obtain services to access any service you require”

The process headed by the national identity management commission of Nigeria thus targets all citizens, including the more than 4million Nigerians including children are expected to obtain an identification number.

When it comes to children you have to have a parent or guardian that has a national identification number.

In other to facilitate access to the document the identification process will commence in some major cities of Cameroon including Douala, Baffousam, Buea and Limbe simultaneously in the days ahead.
