The Mutzig National song competition is certainly one of the oldest and most respected musical competitions in Cameroon which promotes young and rising talents. Started in 1990, it was later on renamed the Mutzig star and it’s organized every year by brewing company Brasseries du Cameroun.
With an objective to promote Cameroonian uprising artists evolving in music to participate in the socio-cultural development of the country, this event sponsored by Brasseries du Cameroun has been a complete success over the past years.
Many artists have been part of this competition. Some of them are: Belka Tobis, Longue Longue, Charlotte Dipanda, Prince Afo Akom, Dynastie le Tigre, Salatiel, Big Benji Mateke, Dany Muma, Stypak Samo, Zinnia, Martino Ngalle, One Face, Aaron B, Kimmanuel, Vanessa, and many others.
This year, 165 candidates auditioned for Mutzig Star competition. They all came from different regions in Cameroon like: Centre, Littoral, Ouest and Nord.
After the auditions, 125 candidates were selected to participate for the next level. The competition took place in Yaounde from the 2nd – 8th of September 2019 and in Douala from the 12th – 19th of September 2019 respectively at Castel Hall.
Furthermore, pre-qualification was carried out in Douala, September 4th and qualification to move to the next level was done on the 7th of September at Castel Hall with 60 candidates selected by the jury; 55 candidates from Yaounde and 5 candidates from North. (For Pre-qualification the jury were: RUBEN & DYNASTIE LE TIGRE while for Qualification the jury were: HERVE NGEBO & RUBEN BINAM).
12 Candidates were later on selected in the first round (pre-qualifaction) and they had a three-day rehearsal session with the orchestra before qualification. After their performance, 8 were selected to compete amongst themselves which 6 were chosen for the finals (4 candidates were chosen by 3 Members of the Jury: COCO ARGENTEE, SALATIEL and RUBEN BINAM) and 2 candidates were chosen by the public votes.
The finale for Mutzig Star 2019 which will be held on the 26th of October 2019 at Palais Des Congress, Yaounde will be shown live on television and also streamed live on Mutzig Cameroon Facebook page and also on YouTube.
