The Cameroonian music Industry while with all the talent it possesses has still not seen a hit in 2020, 80% of the most popular songs. The year opened with Stanley Enow’s ”My Way remix” and the hype around “Stanley Vs Enow” an independently released album with immense success.

Since then, we have seen Blanche Bailly released “Mes Respect” and Ko-c’s “Mon Pala Pala” become popular with a lot of AfroBikossa elements in it  – wholly or in parts.

One could argue that “Memes Memes Choses” by Locko is the biggest song in the country right now – However, as it has more presence on the ground than any other, be it on streaming platforms or public spots, etc.

Others like ‘Asabe’ by Mr. Leo is just new but it can’t really be compared to its counterparts but it is making waves in so many public joints.

The same goes for ‘’Ololiyo‘ by Abz and Daphne which has had a lot of airplay and went viral on social media, but as of now, it is easily dying down.

Also, Daphne’s international collaboration titled ”You Got It” featuring Koffi Olomide is one of the songs topping charts right now.

Other songs that didn’t get there are songs like Vivid’s “Njangsang”, Boy Tag’s “Faraway”, Blaise B’s ”Mr. Romantic” and several others.

So we seem to marvel why songs are not hitting back to back in the 237 Industry this year.

One can say giving the presence of COVID-19, songs have become harder to become hits as artists don’t have shows due to social distancing measures and as such can’t perform the songs to make them more popular to the general public.

Also given how slow the economy is, with all businesses in Cameroon, due to the pandemic, it is also likely that the music industry will also be affected too.

Other reasons might be that these songs are not ’well promoted’ to reach their potential.

However, this can also be taken as an indirect wakeup call for fans, artists, and the public to put more effort to get more successful songs in the industry.

In a nutshell, we are looking forward to having a ’Hit’ track before the end of 2020.
