From Mister Elad writing Songs for artists like: Blanche Bailly(Kam We Stay), Liinx (Ashia), Nernos (Allo l’Argent) and many more to Salatiel writing songs for Daphne

to Slim Beatz writing songs for artists and to Edi Ledrae writing songs for most of his clients.

The stumbling block here is not hiring a songwriter but rather about not giving he or she the credit for the work on the song.

Songwriting is a profession like teaching and driving etc. When you go to your friend’s place and your friend asks you

how you got to her/his place and you say ”it’s my aunt who dropped me here” you have given credit to your aunt indirectly.

The same goes to artists but in this case, they barely say anything. Some see it demeaning giving credits to their songwriters,

others would rather take the credit especially in instances where the song becomes a hit or viral track.

We know many songwriters who have written songs for artists and they have not had their name on song credits.

Songwriting in the Cameroon music industry has become a point of controversy as some artists don’t publicly

give songwriters credit as most of them just demand one-time payment for their services but songwriters can earn more than that.

An example is Ed Sheeran writing “Love Yourself” for Justin Bieber and that song went double platinum (sold 2 million copies at that point).

If Ed Sheeran was to have 10 percent of all the 2 million copies sold(do the math), you will understand why songwriters are undervalued in our industry and with

our infant industry filled with unstructured copyright laws does not encourage songwriting and as such can’t earn royalties from their products.

– The main reason why artists don’t publicly recognize songwriters of their songs is because they think

that people won’t respect them enough if they knew that the songs were not written by them.

– Some artists just want all the glory and financial proceeds to themselves.

– Most fans look at artists who engage in such activities very skeptically

as some question how original the artist’s content is and their ability to create songs.

Wow! 10 Interesting Facts You Didn’t Know About Mister Elad.

But the main hurdle is that the artist and songwriters don’t understand how the global system works and the,

songwriters are contented with the one-time payment they get and so the main problem here is ignorance.

Moreover, Many don’t even know about royalties and publishing and so both parties are at fault.

Here are some ways to solve this:

– The first solution should be the orientation of artists and songwriters to the songwriting concept at

the most professional level so that no party gets robbed of their entitlements.

– The second solution, is to legalize songwriting as a job in the country so that people change

their mentalities towards the issue as even Michael Jackson used songwriters too.

– Also, as usual with songwriting, there is a     Non-disclosure agreement always signed by the writer most times,

such that only the singer can disclose publicly and not the writer.

– 2 heads are better than one as long as they want the same thing.
