Lion Production Singer Mr. Leo has been one of the biggest urban acts to come out of Cameroon especially during the rise of Urban Music in Cameroon.
From his days with Alpha-better Records, He rose into prominence with his numerous love singles like “C’est Faux” , “On va Gere” , “Jamais Jamais” etc.
The Lion on doing this built a very strong fan base for himself.
There was no way you could count 3 of the biggest artists in Cameroon without mentioning the name “Mr. Leo “
Fast forward 4 years from that time and we are in the Present date.
Mr. Leo is a big name in the Music Industry, He has his own Record Label, he has been the primary reason for the rise of other acts like Kameni and Gomez.
Among all these, we have seen a gradual change in his musical direction and what he stands for.
He sings about Africa , Slave Mentality , Nature , African Unity. His voice is used to pass the message of African Unity.
his songs aren’t the same from the Mr. Leo we knew some years back as he hasn’t done commercial music for a while.
He started with the song “Zege Zege” which is about Mental Slavery and later on Dropped Asabe which although showed glimpses of the ‘old’ Mr. Leo, but still had more resonance with his new musical direction.
He later on Dropped “Time “ which confirmed the direction of his music and his recent single “Jei Jei “ confirmed the absolute shift in musical trajectory.
While its not a bad thing to reinvent yourself as an artist, He has proceeded to make fans uncomfortable with his new art.
Most fans of ‘The singer’ don’t understand where he is going to with this kind of music.
They demand the Mr. Leo from Je Suis Desolé, The Mr. Leo from Je T,Aime ,E Go Beta and the songs that made them fans of the former Alpha-Beta records singer.
These fans feel like not only is this new version of himself not relatable but his career isn’t getting ‘hire and higher’ with this kind of sound.
Mr. Leo‘s Lion Nation fanbase hopes he changes and returns to doing Commercial and soul searching songs.
