Spread the love

Hello MGP Readers, It’s officially the last month in 2019 and we know every music lover wants to know the Cameroonian artists who had the greatest impact in 2019.

Before we get into that, 2019 has seen a couple of new names such as: Kameni, Yung Meagan, Fhish, SavageCash, T-Jay, Aveiro Djess and many others.

2019 was Honestly a very passive year in the Cameroon music industry. The treacherous nature in the Anglophone regions handicapped so many entertainers.

The influence of this distractions that were hindering the growth of the industry didn’t stop the biggest artistes in Central Africa to believe why the Cameroon music industry is the most productive yet overlooked asset of the country and economy.

2019 had fewer hit songs as compared to 2018, but nevertheless, the amount of amazing music released by Cameroonian artists in 2019 is almost impossible to fully recap and a good number of the songs actually had massive media spins, radio plays and was rotated on TV on a regular.

The MGP List of top artists for the year puts together Top 10 best performing acts within the year based on;

Hit and Viral Songs, Shows, Impact of the songs released, Featurings, Awards(Recognition), Commercial and Artistic value.

Here is a list of the 10 hottest Cameroonian artists of 2019.

10: Nyangono Du Sud:

Nyangono Du Sud made his musical debut just at the beginning of the year. He later on went to release one of the biggest jams this year, tagged “Ça Déjà Commencé” which had massive replays and spins in clubs, shows etc He, later on, went to perform at different shows and was privileged to performed for the first lady, Chantal Biya.  To achieve all these in one year is a phenomenal task even for the top artists.

9.Stanley Enow:

Say what you want about Stanley Enow but what we can agree on is that he is one of the biggest names in Cameroon music industry and he has constantly proved it! His license to collaborate with other artists became the additional spring required to embark on a more commanding industry run.

His songs ”Good Day” and ”Glory” received massive Tv plays on channels and had regular spins in clubs and parties. To top that, he released his 2nd studio album “STANLEY VS ENOW”  which has been  topping streaming platforms like Deezer FR. Stanley headlined shows in different parts of the country. It’s been a busy and fruitful year for him, he had to take 9th spot on our list.

8.Nabila:

Mummy ”Adraeya” had a repose and at the same time very successful year as she released 2 singles with her latest single “Il est la” being the most celebrated one.

She also bagged a Canal D’or, Ballon D’or and an endorsement deal with Tecno Mobile which made her become the face of this company and to conclude the year, she released her EP “Nabil4life” and also organized her own concert in Douala. She takes 8th spot on this list for the reasons highlighted above.

7.KoC:

Ko-c who had a better 2018 was living off the fruits of it in 2019 as “Sango” ft Fanicko was still Buzzing. He collaborated with some artists, he released one of the biggest hits of the year “Ca a Cuit” and also teamed with Ariel Sheney to make his 2nd hit of the year  “On s’en fout”. Njang Collins headlined some of the biggest shows in Cameroon and across the country and did a European Tour.

6:Mr Leo:

Mr. Leo had a very ”quiet year” and to have a ”quiet year” and be on the list (6th place) shows how good he is. He put his career on hold to develop the careers of his signed artists; Kameni and Gomez.

He started the year with the hit single “Patronne” which was well received by fans and then later released the single “Amen” and “Soulever” Ft Kameni and Gomez which had a lot of remarkable reviews and also did a few collaborations with artists like: Montess, Dj Kenny and Dj Kerozen which still kept his name relevant.

While the rumours surrounding his relationship, baby mamas, and famous ”black coolant” was one that kept the blogs busy. He was stylistically restless with his music as Mr Leo performed at different events and also won Awards this year.

The year wasn’t as good as his fans would have wanted but regardless, it was still a good one which merited the 6th spot on the list.

5: Locko:

Locko had a lot going on in 2019 as he was on tour after releasing his highly anticipated album “Cloud Nine”. He released 4 singles from the album with “Let Go” and “Hein Hein Hein” being massive hits in Central Africa. He also received Canal and Ballon D’or awards and had an endorsement deal from Itel Mobile. From all that it sounds like a very good year to us and so he takes the 5th spot.

4: Magasco:

2019 was the year Bamenda boy Magasco exited Empire Company to create his own label, BBOY Records which made the night still young for him as it started slowly and later on balanced up with his consistency in featurings which he did with Mihney, Dolly Pearl, Kikoh and several others. Magasco had 1 hit this year which was “Kongossa”.

However, the most excellent thing about his career this year was his album “Heart” which was highly streamed and purchased.

He was able to maintain about 1.1 million people streaming his songs on Spotify this year which is enormous for a Cameroonian artist. ’Bamenda Boy’ graced so many stages but the main highlight of the year was his “Heart” album (This is a double album with 29 songs and a bonus track.) He is the first artist to release a 29-track album in Cameroon which in our perspective it made him deserve 4th spot on our list.

3: Daphne:

Daphne had a stagnant year than what she normally experiences but don’t get us wrong, the calee crooner had a lot of good aspects of this year as she released 3 hit singles (Alleulia, Ne lache pas and Doucement).

She signed a deal with the brand ”Mami Makala”, she received 4 Canal d’Or awards and Ballon d’Or awards too! She was highly booked across the continent. She collaborated with some Nigerian artists, Congolese artist(Hiro) and the songs are topping charts.  Her achievements this year were something to talk about. Also, she was the first Cameroonian artist to surpass 1 million Instagram followers.

2: Blanche Bailly:

Queen Mimba had a very good year as she came off 2018 with the hit song “Ndolo” and later on dropped another hit song titled “Ton Pied,Mon Pied”. As if that was not enough, She dropped the 2nd Biggest song of the year titled “ARGENT”.

She was also highly booked for shows and her song Argent had more than 100 remixes of it. She had a Duet with Numerica in “Favor”, she headlined the biggest concert in Equitorial Guinea and was trending on social media with her numerous controversies which gave her a lot of relevance. Blanche was nominated at so many prestigious awards and to crown it all, she has launched her beauty salon in Buea, opposite Eta Palace.

Other Worthy Mentions:

Tenor:

Tenor was highly booked this year and had many shows in Central Africa. He was the 2nd Artist to reach 1million Instagram Followers but however he had numerous unsuccessful releases and so couldn’t make it on our Top 10 list.

Mimie:

Mimie came off her maternity break to release “Ten-Ten” which became the go-to record to start a party.

Tzy Panchak:

Tzy Panchak released  one of the biggest songs in 2019 titled “Na So” which was not only a success but also a medium of discovering new Cameroonian talents in Vivid, Cleo Grae and Vernyuy Tina. He also had a few bookings and was consistent with his releases but needed more to breakout in the final portion of the list.

Jovi:

Jovi released his 4th studio album ”God Don Kam” which trended for months. He later on released “Ouleu”. He also headlined the biggest festivals in 2019 but however, he remained more tight-lipped as the year went by with no mojor moves declared openly.

Mic Monsta

Lyrical pichichi as he is fondly called by his fans started the year with his debut album ”Kwata Diary”!

He released ”Change Ya Style” video and just when his fans thought that was all, he dropped ”Johnny”. The song marks as one of his highly recommended tracks after ”Fear”!

Johnny serves as a strong reminder to all hustlers not to give up on their hustle.

Gasha, Montess, Askia, Blaise B and Mink’s are a few names worth the mention too.

1-Salatiel:

Salatiel has been ripping up stages worldwide, dropping banging records, sealing lucrative deals.

2019 was arguably the year for ”High Man General”. Why do we say so?! Because he released ”Anita” and 2months later, the song recorded 2million views on YouTube, it went viral and every music lover related to the story.

Salatiel featured on the album of one of the biggest female artists in the world, Beyoncé.

It’s rare to see an achievement that tops Salatiel’s own and more to that he solidified the year by winning Afrima’s ”Best Male Artiste in Central Africa” Award and several awards.

He also announced the release of his album titled “Africa Represented”.

His artistic value has skyrocketed from what it used to be. 2019 will go down as the year when Salatiel’s name transcended yet again to one of the most defining artists in the music sphere.

With all that in store, we therefore crown Salatiel the biggest Cameroonian artist of 2019.

So there you have it. The Top 10  biggest Cameroonian artists in 2019.
