Cameroonian artist and business man, Wax Dey, revealed how he handled depression in 2007 as he mourns the death of the African MC, HHP on facebook.

Here’s what he wrote on facebook:

”Depression is real. As the Cameroonian industry gets bigger, we will soon realize how deadly it is. the pioneers of the modern hip-hop industry in Africa are hard hit – Prokid left us recently – with a seizure. His close friends said he was depressed! Today HHP, the African MC I respect the most, is gone, it is feared he shot himself.

Sooner or later, we’ll have to man up and face it or start counting our own casualty. If you ever need someone to talk to, give me a shout. If you feel hard hit by the industry, don’t be afraid to reach out. There is help. If you feel bad about yourself or are in doubt about ur future, let someone help u through it. Don’t let depression ruin your life, or worse, steal it. In 2007 I drove to Cape Town and took up an apartment overlooking the sea on Beach road.

I thought I needed a change of scene and what better than Long Street, the beach, and exotic tourists. A few months later, I became suicidal. On a visit to the hospital, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I put my car on a train and went back to Joburg, with my doctors prescriptions, to face my demons.

The only thing I remember of that period is that if I knew how to kill myself, I might have! So when I read these headlines, I’m both sad and apprehensive of the fact that we can stop it, if only we took it more seriously!!! #RIPHHP”
