Aside from soccer games and other world cup competitions, the cooking sector has also reached the world competition level with “Plate of Origin”. The World Cup of Cooking, Plate of Origin is an Australian Competitive Cooking Game Show.

While countries from across the globe took part in the competition, two sisters of Cameroonian origin was challenged to face nine duos from different countries at this World Cup of Cooking, called “Plate of Origin”.

The two sisters, 26-year-old Kelly and her sister 28-year-old Ashley were the flag bearers of the country in this international completion which strarted, August 30, 2020 in Australia and was scheduled to run for three weeks.

The ten competitors in this world cooking game were; Cameroon, China, Lebanon, France, Australia, Greece, Vietnam, Italy, India and Venezuela.

The competition took place in Australia, host of this competition was the renowned Chef Manu Feildel while Co-hosts were Chef Gary Mehigan and Food Critic, Matt Preston were the judges. Meanwhile, the teams competed in cooking international traditional meals.

In the competition, ten selected teams which were made up of two members each, faced each other in the first round while five best teams were selected as qualifiers for the next round and the remaining, eliminated.

From the selected five, an overall best team to emerge won a cash prize of 100,000 Dollars amounting to CFAF 55, 618, 800, 00, adding to the pride that “their cuisine reigns supreme.”

The Cameroon team competed with the team from Vietnam on September 1st, 2020

Talking about their skills, the two Cameroonian cooking duos say they grew up with their Grandmother from whom they tapped their passion for preparing homemade delicacies which has become a way to express their love and show how they were brought up.

For Ashley who dreams of opening a restaurant to showcase traditional meal, “No matter who you are and where you come from, food is the one thing that brings the people we love together; food solves a lot of problems.”
