Cameroonian artistes have different points and ways they go about their activities in the music industry. 

This varies as a result of many factors like Longevity in the Industry, Growth, Discography, Marketing Level, Song, and Video Quality, etc.

You all will agree with us that when it comes to using music to entertain people, there are levels to it.

So below Are 8 Different Classes of Music Artistes You Will Find in Cameroon.

1. TheSuperEstablished Artist:

These ones are known everywhere both in Cameroon and abroad. You all already know the artistes in this category.

These are artistes that will sell out shows both in Cameroon and abroad.

This is because, they are products of hard work and consistency and over the years built their reputation and fanbase to a very high level.

In most cases, they have a strong team that has helped them become a household name in the music industry. Examples of these kinds of artistes are Daphne Njie, Mr. Leo, Charlotte Dipanda, and several others.

 

2. The Established Artist:

These ones are well known by everyone and have a very good musical reputation but are however slightly below the level of the well-established. 

They can only sell-out shows in Local Arenas but they dare not try Palais des Sport Yaoundé.

The artistes under this category are well recognized within Cameroon with strong street credibility. 

They are responsible for many slangs that become popular on the street because people can easily relate to their music.

3. “The Blown BeforeArtist:

When you’re once blown but, in a few years, you’ve ”unblown”. This is the situation artistes in this category face.

They came into the industry with good songs accepted by many music lovers but due to their inability to adapt to industry demands and trends, they become obsolete with their music.

4. The Instagram Blown

These are artistes who don’t really do well with official single release but give them the opportunity to release a one-minute freestyle on Facebook, it will spread like a virus.

The set of artistes in this category only have massive followers, no fame, no money.

They have tied their growth in the music industry to the number of followers they have on Facebook.

Most upcoming artistes are this category, one freestyle gets lots of comments and likes on their page but their songs hardly penetrate.

When these people drop songs, they only promote on Facebook and plead with other celebrities to repost. 

Examples of these types of Artistes are Otang and Dslyk The Rap Assassin, and several others.

 

5. The Talented but Underrated

Success in the Cameroon music industry necessitates that your art is being known and treasured by many.

Being underrated is when you’re not receiving the praises you deserve bearing in mind the quality of songs you drop.

Many artistes are in this group, they are so brilliant but no one is rating them on the same level as their songs. Examples include: Awu, Mic Monsta, Dready Christ etc.

6. The B List Artist

These are artists who have created received regional or national recognition through consistent release or on-stage presentation of his or her songs. 

A Mid-Career Artist has had a significant number of solo performances at significant events, located nationally or internationally, rather than locally.

To be considered a mid-career artist, you must have received regional or national recognition through consistent release or onstage presentation of his or her songs.

Mid-Career Artists have established a national or international following and have their songs in many different cities and countries, rather than in a local or regional area. 

A great local example of a Mid-Career Artistes is; Montess, Tzy Panchak, Kameni, Mimie, etc.

7. The Upcoming Artist

These artistes are Still on the rise and haven’t yet been known. 

These artistes have a lot to prove and have a lot of work to cover before they get recognized. 

They however are known in their localities like in schools or streets, it’s a signal that if they could have a bigger platform to reach out to more people, they’d definitely grow bigger. 

Examples of such include Cysoul, Gomez, Vivid. Abzstrumental etc.

8. The Legends

They have scaled all hurdles and beaten every record in the music industry.

Due to their consistency with good music over the years, the entire music industry label them as legends.

More importantly, these are artistes other music artistes pick as role models or mentors. 

Examples of such Artistes Include: Lady Ponce, Petit Pays, Richard Bona, Longue Longue, Ben Decca, etc.
