In 2009, Wax Dey pushed himself into the international spotlight with MTV hit soul song Miss Real, Mr Regular a song which was featured on Sony Music’s Africa All Star 2010 and which he recorded live with Congo’s Simon Valouveta (bass), South Africa’s Simon Annet (drums), Cuba’s Jospeh Averjel (percussions) and himself on voice and guitar.

The year after, the same dream team came together to produce the acoustic jazz recorded ‘African Soul’, which earned him a spot on South Africa’s official WOMEX jazz compilation (he also co-wrote and produced another song ”Masechaba” by Peggy Matseke, on the same compilation).

Both songs were hard-hitting, and he was invited to headline South Africa’s Africa Day concert alongside D’banj and Yvonne Chaka Ckaka, a live concert that was opened by the President of the Republic and covered live on public broadcaster, SABC.

Wax Dey has maintained a steady presence as an activist, music performer and entrepreneur since then, inspiring a new generation of fearless Cameroonian artists who are ready to take on the world.

His 2016 collaboration with Nigerian star, Yemi Alade titled SAKA MAKOSSA, earned him an All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA) for Best Male Artist in Central Africa. In 2014, he won Best African Collaboration for the collaboration Cocoa na Chocolate, on which he worked alongside D’banj and Fally Ipupa.

Wax Dey is back to redefined his art for an exclusive live music experience at Institut Français du Douala on Friday 14 December. Don’t miss the magical musical moments that have defined Cameroon’s urban music scene today, a melting pot of urban, R&B and acoustic jazz, transcending all ages brought to you by Cameroon’s most versatile artist.
