Could Mel B still be referred to as an up-and-coming artiste due to her mediocre management team?

Due to the recent occurrences plaguing showbiz in Cameroon, we can come to a conclusion that Facebook is a place where we get to know the hidden and dark sides of most celebrities, their managers and fans.

In an attempt to criticize Mel B’s outfit which she wore to a show in Sangmelima, a facebook user called the talented songstress an “upcoming artist” which seemed to have triggered chaos on social media, with a host of bloggers and fans giving their personal views on the matter. Let us start by understanding the difference between an up-and-coming artist, a mid-career artist and an established artist.

An up-and-coming artist or an emerging artist is someone who’s in the early stage of their career. someone who’s caught the eye of an art critic and/or gallery, but hasn’t yet established a solid reputation as an artist amongst art critics, art buyers, and art galleries.

On the other hand, a mid-career artist is an artist who has created an independent body of work over a number of years and who has received regional or national recognition through publication or public presentation of his or her work. Lastly, an established artist is an artist who is at a mature stage in his or her career and who has created an extensive body of independent work.

An established artist has reached an advanced level of achievement by sustaining a nationally or internationally recognized contribution to the discipline.
Another highlight of the incident will be the manner in which Mel B’s manager responded to comments made about his artist.

Generally, the job of an artist manager is not just limited to organizing shows and getting the artist a bigger name but it all goes down to maintaining the reputation of the artist. Kay Niine who happens to be Mel B’s manager for sure has no idea about that as he rendered lots of insults and disrespect to people giving their points of view about Mel B being an “upcoming artist”.
